I used a json editor to reformat the json file, removed the 2 obfuscation map entries + blocked to prevent loading the borked json. IF you look at the json file for 1.14.4 its a bit messed up (intentionally or not) compared to the old ones plus it has new entries for the obfuscation maps (and they seem to bug the laucher out in addition to the missing format). *alternatively create a custom version (change the id in the json accordingly), then blocking isnt necessary it will download all missing libraries and start the game. Go to your versions folder in the minecraft directory, add a '1.14.4' folder, put this json (required name= '1.14.4.json') and optionally the client.jar from aboves link (required name = '1.14.4.jar' ) and start the launcher.
